Celebrate Fairfax

Get ready to have some fun! Come out to the Celebrate Fall for Fairfax event this Saturday at Fairfax Government Center. Fall for Fairfax will run from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Activities include a train ride, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, inflatables and several kid's performances. There will also be exhibits on education, sport and fitness, public saftey, personal health and the environment.

Celebration Commemorating Falls Church Farmers Market

The public is invited to a Celebration commemorating the selection of the Falls Church Farmers Market as “America’s Favorite Farmers Market” in a nationwide contest.  The celebration is scheduled for October 9th at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, 300 Park Ave.  The first 500 who attend will receive a free tote bag!  In addition to the Falls Church Mayor and other local elected officials, guests at the ceremony will include Congressman Jim Moran, Va. Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple, Del. Jim Scott, the Honorable Matt Lohr, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and American Farmland Trust’s Mid-Atlantic Director Jim Baird. 

Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in Falls Church

First Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Sept. 25

The City of Falls Church will join the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other government, community, public health and law enforcement partners in the nationwide prescription drug "Take-Back" Day on Saturday, Sept. 25.  The purpose of this campaign is to prevent increased drug abuse and theft. City of Falls Church public safety officials will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at Fire Station #6, 6950 Little Falls Road (rear parking lot) on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.  All drugs collected will be destroyed.

Corpus Christi School Christmas Attic Craft Fair and Silent Auction

The Corpus Christi School PTO is presenting the 31st annual Christmas Attic Craft Fair and Silent Auction on November 6. The event will include crafters, global cuisine, a silent auction, and a raffle. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 3301 Glen Carlyn Road in Falls Church, VA.

Children will be able to enjoy a surprise visit from Santa!

Metro to Improve Lighting at West Falls Church Station

The Metro Finance and Administration committee endorsed the reimbursable project today, September 16, to install new lights on the busy bay canopies at West Falls Church Metrorail station. This new lighting will improve safety, as well as service reliability. The project will be voted on by the full Metro Board of Directors on September 30.

The canopies were originally completed back in January without lighting because a lack of resources. Now new funds from the Virginia Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation will enable the addition of this new lighting. The project is expected to be completed by late January 2011.

Falls Church Farmers Market Voted #1

In a contest sponsored by the American Farmland Trust, the Falls Church Farmers Market was voted “American’s Favorite Farmer Market.” The contest was broken into 4 different categories: boutique markets (15 or less vendors), small markets (16-30 vendors), medium markets (31-55 vendors), and large markets (56 or more vendors). Falls Church Farmers Market fell into the medium market category with a total of 45 vendors.

Virginia farmers also voted on favorite markets, regardless of size, and Falls Church finished first. Come and check out the market in Falls Church if you haven’t already! The Falls Church Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until noon, and 9:00 a.m. during the winter. The market takes place in the parking lot of City Hall at 300 Park Avenue in Falls Church, VA.
