FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 35-year-old man inappropriately touched and kissed an eight-year-old girl at an apartment-run daycare in Falls Church Tuesday morning, Fairfax County police said.

Santos Romero Gomez, 35, of Falls Church is being charged for assault and kissing a child under the age of 13, with lascivious intent, authorities stated.

The assault happened around 7:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Glen Carlyn Drive. It was learned that the mother dropped her daughter off at the daycare before going to school.

Gomez, who was renting a room inside of the same apartment went up to the child. Police said he touched the child inappropriately and kissed her. The victim was able to get away and ran to the woman taking care of her. The girl called her parent who returned to the apartment right away.

The investigation shows that Gomez has rented a room in that apartment over the past few years. The leaseholder of that apartment has an in-home daycare at that location.

If the parents of any children who attend that daycare feel they may have information to share with police, they are asked to call the non-emergency number at 703-691-2131 and make a police report or contact Crime Solvers electronically by visiting www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text-a-tip by texting "TIP187" plus your message to CRIMES(274637)** or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS(8477).
