Lincoln Park Closed Feb. 6 for Rain Garden Project

From the City of Falls Church:

Lincoln Park (Lincoln Ave. and Great Falls St.) will be closed on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, so that the City’s Department of Public Works crews can begin preparing the park for the rain garden installation projects. The rain date is Tuesday, Feb. 7. During the closure, parking will be restricted on the north side of Lincoln Ave. at the park.

Falls Church Townhouse Explosion, One Injured

From Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department:

 Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a townhouse explosion, Sunday, January 8, at approximately 7:15 p.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 2852 Pine Spring Road, Falls Church.

      Firefighters were initially called for a medical emergency at the two-story townhouse; however, an explosion had occurred minutes prior to their arrival. An adult male was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital for a non-life threatening injury as a result of the explosion.

Washington, DC (December 1, 2011)—The all new Washington Home & Garden Show is extremely pleased to announce that Ty Pennington, the iconic host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will headline the March 9-11 Show at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown DC.

Stormwater Survey Due December 2

Residents of single-family homes in the City received a mailed survey about stormwater management. Survey responses will help the Department of Public Works gain a better understanding of the drainage issues facing City residents. Respondents will need the Real Property Code provided in the mailing to complete the paper and Survey Monkey versions of the survey. Questions? Contact Allison Lohrenz via email or 703-248-5456. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Dec. 2, 2011.

City of Falls Church to Participate in Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System

On Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m., the City will participate in a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the national test alert will be broadcast on radio and television stations.

As part of the City's ongoing commitment to effective emergency management, staff will participate in a virtual communications drill. There will be no disruption to City services as a result of the drill and City staff will use this opportunity to practice emergency communications that might be necessary during a hurricane, earthquake, or other disaster.
