Shop Local Initiative Receives Falls Church EDA Grant

From the City of Falls Church:

Shop Local, a campaign to encourage City of Falls Church residents to support retailers, restaurants and other businesses in the community by spending their money locally, recently received a grant for $1,000 from the Falls Church Economic Development Authority (EDA) Board of Directors. The grant will be used to promote and publicize the campaign with a street banner and educational materials produced by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce.   Shop Local seeks to increase the City’s business-generated sales and meals tax revenue, encourage small and independent merchants, bolster the local workforce, and encourage a greener region by reducing travel for shopping and services, among other goals articulated on the Chamber’s website. A list of Falls Church businesses also is available at www.fallschurchchamber.org.   “We hope that our small grant to assist the Shop Local effort will provide big returns for our business community,” said David Tarter, EDA Chairman. “With over 100 restaurants alone to choose from in Falls Church, residents have a great selection for dining and shopping without leaving the city, and by supporting these businesses, can help accomplish so many things that strengthen and benefit the community in general,” he added.
